Jennifer Widener - EWGA Member since 2009; Chapter President
For those who may not know me yet, I am Jennifer Widener, the current President of EWGA Atlanta. I have been playing golf for most of my life, which means that I should probably be a lot better player by now! My best golfing days were during grad school, when I was playing consistently and shot 80 a couple dozen times…sadly, those days are now a distant memory. My current game is not as sharp and it could be said that I single-handedly keep the production line going at Precept given the number of golf balls I lose in a year. I have big plans for my game this year, including actual practice, so here’s to fewer boxes of balls!
Officially, my role for the upcoming year is to ensure the health, well-being, and future of the chapter. Sounds more like the responsibility of a health provider, but that is what I am tasked with this year. Luckily, I have been handed a chapter that has been well taken care of and is in good health. But just as our own health requires ongoing work, the board has set near-term goals that will ensure the well-being of the chapter going forward. Specifically, our goals are to increase our number of sponsors, increase membership through recruitment and better retention practices, increase participation levels, and to improve pace of play through player education. I will be discussing our goals in more detail at kickoff but please feel free to contact me at time to discuss our chapter goals for the coming year.
One of the great things about the goals noted above is that all members, not just board members, can help our chapter meet, and hopefully exceed, our goals for 2013. What does that mean for you? We want everyone to consider themselves ambassadors for the chapter (we even distributed business cards!). That role can take many forms including identifying a possible sponsor, recruiting a potential member at the driving range, or volunteering at a monthly event. It also means representing the chapter and EWGA well when playing golf by knowing the rules, etiquette, and how to play ready golf. I look forward to a fun and successful 2013!
