Lori Whitaker - EWGA Member since 2003 and 2008 EWGA National Champion
The first thing you should know about me is I am one of the most competitive people you will ever meet. Not something I really want to divulge about myself, but it is the glue of my story. Competition is what drove me to the game of golf.
I grew up with a father who played golf and we actually lived on a golf course, but I never took interest in the sport. As a
child, basketball is the sport that captivated me. I was consumed by the game throughout my childhood and played in college at Furman University. Once I graduated with a degree in Accounting, I moved into the world of corporate finance and realized I had to fill my competitive desires outside of the workplace. I still played basketball in city leagues, ran a couple of marathons, and tried to find my way. However it wasn’t until I was in my early 30’s that I was captured by golf. The rest is history.
My desire to compete has also shaped my career. After spending years in corporate finance, I realized I would much rather play in the game than keep score so I moved to sales. I am an Account Manager for Avaya selling communications platforms to enterprise customers in Georgia. I feel very fortunate to have a career that allows me to go out and compete every day and get paid for it.
So it is no surprise that competition is what drove me to join EWGA. However, once I became a member, I soon realized that the friendships were the real prize and golf is just a bonus.
