League Guidelines & Etiquette
EWGA Membership
All league players must be current EWGA members.
Handicap Maintenance
All EWGA members receive access to the EWGA GN21 handicap system included with their membership dues. EWGA Westchester strongly encourages all members to have a handicap - establishing and maintaining a handicap is an important and essential part of the game of golf.
Inclement Weather Policy
In the case of inclement weather, call the golf course after 3:30 p.m. (for 9 hole leagues) to inquire whether league play will occur on that day. There will be no rain dates provided in the Sprain or Saxon Woods leagues; these leagues have been extended to 12 weeks to account for rain cancellations. Doral Arrowwood provides a rain check for league play cancellations due to weather.
Guest Policy
If a substitute player is needed in a league and there are no subs available from the league sublist, a league player may bring a non-member ONCE as a guest substitute for that night. The substitute player is required to pay the greens fee like any other substitute player. If a guest plans on substituting more than once, they are required to join EWGA Westchester and pay the substitute fee.
Games and Contests
League Captains are encouraged to run games, contests, ringer boards etc. over a number of weeks throughout the season to add to the fun and enjoyment of the players. Your participation in the various games/competitions is part of the league structure designed to help you enjoy the sport and social aspects of the league. Remember that the League Captains work hard to bring enjoyment and skill improvement opportunities to your league.
Code of Conduct and Etiquette
All league players are expected to conduct themselves appropriately on the golf course. Players are expected to follow all local rules and rules of behavior, including dress code. EWGA reserves the right to terminate a player's participation in the league if that player is found to not be in compliance with the rules. If a player is terminated, her league fee is not refundable.
Etiquette covers both Courtesy and Priority on the course, as well as care of the course. The following major etiquette points are not rules, but are a very important part of the game and should be followed as closely as possible. Additional etiquette information can be found under golf etiquette tips.
- If unable to play, you can choose to contact someone from the sublist to cover for you. Please make sure you notify your foursome if a sub is playing for you. Missed play is not made up.
- Players must follow course rules, as well as league rules.
- Play ready golf.
- Do not move, talk or stand close to a player making a stroke.
- If you suspect you will be unable to find your ball, hit a provisional ball. The penalty for a lost ball is one stroke and distance.
- Limit your search for a ball to no more than 3 minutes. If you don't find it play your provisional ball and take your one stroke penalty.
- If you hit your ball into water take a one-stroke penalty, dropping according to USGA rules of red or yellow stakes.
- Replace divots.
- After playing your ball out of a bunker, rake the bunker, then lay the rake outside of the bunker.
- Do not drop clubs on the putting green.
- Do not step in the line of another player's putt.
- Replace the flagstick carefully.
- Leave the putting green as soon as all players in your group have holed out.
- Invite faster groups to play through.
- Assist other players with league rules if they are new to the game or not aware of them.
- Pick up your ball if you've exceeded your ESC limit (Equitable Stroke Control).
- At the end of each round one member of your foursome will turn in a score card to the League Captains.
- You are responsible for entering your own score and for keeping your handicap current. The Handicap Chair may check score entries from time to time.
